Sometimes I have real bad cramps during or before my period. I'll take Midol or something similar and sometimes it helps but other times I have to lay flat on my stomach or curled up in order for it to go away. Is there anything my doctor can prescribe me to help the cramps? I've heard sometimes going on the pill can help is this true?

the pill can help your period, as well as other birth control methods can help or even stop your period.

You can always try taking a warm bath and soaking in the tub for a while. That helps to relieve my cramps, as well as taking Motrin (same as Midol). Have you tried laying on a heating pad? They also have heat pads you can use for muscle aches that stick to your clothes and provide heat for up to 8 hours. Thermacare is the more popular brand, and they work wonders! You can't see the pad under your clothes, so no one will know you're wearing one unless you tell them, and you'll feel the heat all day long.

Before I had kids I had a lot of really bad cramping on my period, a lot to the point I couldn't get out of bed. Sometimes I would get painful gas cramping as well. I have also had a few friends with the same problem. I still get painful cramps when I'm on my period, and personally, Midol makes a world of difference for me. Sorry you're going through this, hope you find something that helps soon.

Heat will help with cramps. I would recommend that you get a bag of rice, and a lone sock that the dryer didn't "eat"... put the rice in the sock and tie the end. Pop that in the microwave for 1-2 minutes on high and place it on the cramp. Make sure that it's not too hot, and do not place directly on your skin. (Keep a shirt, or something light between the sock and you.)

That will help. I get really bad cramps associated with my period. I have a bag of corn (the dry kind you can find at an animal feed store) in a cloth bag (like a pillowcase sewn on all sides) that I carry with me when I go out. If there is a microwave you can use, it will help you stay mobile.

If there is a microwave at work, you can use the bag or sock during your breaks. It helps.

You can re-use the rice filled sock for months. Just don't wash it. lol.

Going on the pill can definately help alleviate the pain of cramping during and before your period. It worked for me... also it can help to regulate your period if you have problems with that.
