I disagree with LITY ... he did the dirty work that most of the so called "top" players often refuse to do. These "top" players feel themselves too good to to the gritty, dirty work in the corners or in front of the net. Ricci was a warrior. He took beatings each and every night ... I know, because I watched all of his games with San Jose. I distinctly remember (and have the video to prove it) him getting cut and bloodied at least 3 times in one game! The guy went to the bench, gets stitched/glued up, and was right back out there for his next shift.
He played every game with heart, sacrificing himself for the sake of the team ... and I think that these are aspects missing from so many players' games today.
And he had no finesse to his game whatsoever ... no speed, no stickhandling, no snaz.
And no, he probably won't be remembered like Crosby, Heatley, Joe Thornton, Lidstrom, etc. etc. etc. .. but the guy was a hockey player through and through.

Compare Ricci to Lindros, who were traded for one another when Lindros refused to play for the Nordiques. Lindros was hyped to be the next best thing and turned into one of the biggest busts in recent hockey history. Ricci doesn't have as many points but he was a gritty 2 way defender who's name is on the Stanley Cup. He is a solid 2nd or 3rd line center, who's going to give you 100% every night. He's the kind of player you hate to play against, but love him if he's on your team.

I loved him when he played for the Sharks. He was my favorite player for a couple years because he was consistent and could come through in clutch situations. Plus you can never go wrong with someone voted sexiest athlete of the year.

Not a lot
Another guy who started his last year of Junior as the consensus #1 and by the end had dropped a couple of notches. Was a guy who could not play welkl under pressure, and that led to one of his trades.
He could have been so much more than he was, and sdadly, his hair will be remembered long after he's gone

Never liked Ricci myself, I've known him for several years and he's an ***. I remember that Doug Wilson called him a "useless cog" when he traded him and that several other members of the Sharks felt he was a 'cancer' (Marleau and Nabokov among others).

Gritty two-way player, but at best looked like a wet, angry kitten.
