A lot of guys are shy about having this done to them for the first time, so you arent the only one who might be shy! They arent sure how it will feel or what to expect and often have a hard time relaxing.
My best advice is to take your time. This will help ease his worries and let him get used to the whole sensation as well as give you time to get comfortable. Enjoy getting familiar with this new activity and have fun with it. Ask him to let you know what feels good so you can learn to please him better.
Oral sex is NOT all about how much of him you can fit into your mouth. The fun lies in the sensations you can give him with that mouth. While it is appreciated to be able to take his whole length, it is not neccessary (or even preferable) the whole time.

Blindfold: Good idea, but risky. Some guys will love to to lie back and let you do it all, some guys will hate the idea of being out of control. It takes practice, so don't worry about your "performance." Like everyone says, be sure to open wide and keep your teeth out of the way -- even scraping his penis with them accidentally can be very uncomfortable. Use your lips and tongue alot, and gently massage his testicles at the same time. Don't be surprised if he ejaculates right away. Try to swallow all of it. Gals tend not to like the taste of semen, but the taste buds that are sensitive to semen are all in the front of your mouth, so if you swallow, you bypass them and should hardly taste anything. Just start kissing down to the area. He will let you know if it freaks him out. Plan on doing lots of licking and butterfly kisses first. It should be fun and playful.
You don't even have to take him inside. Kiss, Lick and stroke gently with your hand and gradually stroke him more and more until he climax's. You can save taking him into your mouth for later.

To assist you, you are allowed to use your hands too! If you can only take a small length of him in your mouth, you can 'extend' the depth of your mouth by wrapping your hand/s around his penis too. It feels nice for them if you move the hand/s the same as your mouth or opposite to your mouth.
If you feel like you need to take a break, then you can just use your hand while you catch your breath. If there's lots of moisture, then quietly spit/dribble it back onto his penis (for extra lubrication). If you're worried about him coming in your mouth, or about the whole spit swallow thing, then you can just allow him to ejaculate on your chest instead.
