I'm trying to find a gynecologist in the Chicago area that is supportive of a vaginal birth after 2 c-sections. Does anyone know of any or where I can go to find one? I'm not pregnant yet, just getting prepared because I would like to start trying to conceive around the beginning of 2008. Thank you for your help!

Have you looked for a midwife? They are usually more supportive. I vbac-ed after one c-section with a midwife and it was a great experience. Good luck.

From what I have researched for my best friend (she is pregnant with number 2 after c-section with baby no.1) after 2 c-sections it is considered extemely risky to have a VBAC the third time.

The incision made during the first two c-sections can weaken your uterus and make you extremely vulnerable to rupturing it and causing serious injury. They won't do a VBAC if its a vertical incision or a horizontal incision longer than 12cm (or approx 5in). Also if you have had less than 2 years between deliveries that may not let you VBAC either as the risk for rupturing increases.

However, I think that exploring the option of a VBAC is a great thing to do as it could possibly mean a quicker recovery time for you. The doctors will also consider what made you have a c-section the first two times and whether or not the same complications could arise again.
Also maybe hiring an extremely experienced private midwife to consult with who has dealt with VBAC before could help you find a doctor willing to take you on as a patient.

I hope for your benefit that you get the outcome you want. Best of luck and try finding some midwives who will get you information about doctors you deal with this sort of thing.

If you have had 2 C-sections there are virtually NO doctors that will allow vbac. It's for your health and safety. Once the skin and muscles have been cut or moved for a C-section, the body is never quite the same. Even if it's been years since the last one. Really, it's for your safety and the baby's to continue having C-sections for each delivery after the first.
Sorry.

Yes! Join the ICAN list and ask there. It's *the* place to get this question answered: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ICAN-online . You should also hook up with ICAN of Chicago: http://ican-online.net/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=155

And to whoever says "it is extremely risky to have a VBAC the third time" clearly hasn't read the largest study to date on vaginal birth after multiple cesareans. The Landon study found ***no statistically significant difference in the risks between vaginal birth after one and MULTIPLE (not just two) cesareans***!

This study was large enough to detect a three-fold difference between the group, and there was none: http://romancathanachronism.typepad.com/ican_somerset/2007/09/safety-of-vbac-.html
