My relative lives Barbados and will buy a car for me if I can tell them why it is benefitial for them to do it.

If you mean then arranging to purchase a car in the USA, there are no advantages. If you mean them purchasing one in the Barbados (or wherever) and importing it, even though initial cost might be quite a bit less, after upgrading the car to meet US pollution standards (they are stricter then nearly anywhere else in the world except California), paying the taxes, paying the middle men, and transporting it, it'll cost much more. Any service member who bought a car in Europe then brought it to the USA can testify to that.

They get the self-satisfaction of being a nice, generous person! (Of course, they could get that same feeling if they bought you . . . or me! . . . a car wherever they lived!)
