my bf and i were having a conversation yesterday, and we were talking about impressions. and he said he worried about what kind of impression i'd make on his family when it would be time to meet them, because of my obsession with body art and piercings, we live in a conservative Asian culture.

i don't know, i already dropped the idea of tattoo-ing for him, but I'm not ready to drop the piercings bit. i'm still going to get my nose done, and a few more on my ears, but should i push the bar even futher and get a lip ring?

also, how painful is a lip ring compared to noses, and what are the complications involved?

Just do it :)
You can always use retainers to hide them from his parents. You could also get away with conservative tattoos; like on areas you can cover with clothes. Come to a negotiation that you are happy with.

Lip piercings are siginifigently less painful; I barely even felt mine getting done. They're pretty easy to look after, except you'll need to use mouthwash after EVERY meal and not smoke.

Really, it's up to you what you do with your own body. At the same time, if you're willing to, it wouldn't hurt to wait until after you've met the family and made an impression.

One word of caution, is he trying to make a good impression, or is he trying to change you? Give it some thought.
