Absolutely! I have seen it done many times; especially in states such as Florida and Hawaii, or many islands. During December there is a TV advertisement showing a palm tree/banana tree decorated with lights. Very pretty.
There is a tree trunk wrap with lights that is very pretty and easy to hook around the trunk. You can find them as we near December.
Drape strings of lights throughout the leaves. No need for ornamental bulbs, the lights will be pretty enough.

LOL! I can't even imagine how you'd get lights up the stems.....where are you going to attach them and do you honestly think the plant is strong enough to even hold a string of lights. As for ornaments.....nothing to hang them from. I surely wouldn't tape ornaments onto the leaves. I guess you could fashion a tube that would go around the stems and put red and white stripped paper onto the tubes.

Sure. Just need an imagination for decorating.
I've seen decorated tumble weeds for a 'short Christmas tree'. Not that I would want one; it can be done.

Banana tree !!!!.....hah... why not so you can even decorated with monkey and orang hutan .....but use only with fruits banana tree ....so your guest cant eat it........lol....

it's dosent matter what..! i never see anything weird because of this. for indian culture in malaysia , they use banana tree for their own religion new year for every year. they put banana tree in front of door. it's look very nice...!!!
