She could be talking to any number of people. At $250 per person per year, it could be a profitable sideline. Then again, he may be embarassed to tell you how much he has really sent her.
You didn't say, but perhaps she wants him to send her money for visas and/or travel expenses?
There are more scams than an honest person can imagine.

It doesn't matter if she is a Filipina or not, your friend should NOT be forced to send money. If its a gift, there is nothing wrong with that. But sending something (like money or material things) you are not comfortable in sending is not at all good. She will not be able to come to the US without a visa - and its difficult to get visa from here in the Philippines going to the US. Your friend has to know how will she come over, when, how long, what type of visa will she be applying for? etc.How will she come over and marry him? Normally, he should be the one to come over and marry her so that he can bring her over to the US. With two years of conversation, he should already know the background of this woman. Where did she spent the money? have they ever met at all? yes, there are a lot of scams but there are also relationships that started out as long distance relationships and it worked out just fine. It all depends on your friend. The ball is always in the man's court.

i am a filipina. in the philippines, it is accustomed that the guy will go to philippines to ask for the woman's hand and marry here in the philippines because there is no divorce here.it would be an advantage for us women. and most of all, it is a rule here that husband and wife have a conjugal property, unless anyone of them requires a pre-nuptial agreement. if the woman said that she will go to your country to marry your friend, it is already a disadvantage on her part because she is a woman in an unknown territory. she doesnt know if your friend has psycho killer tendencies or what BUT she is willing to take the chance, risk her life, and leave her family just for your friend. I must say there must be a reason other than $500 because frankly speaking, $500 is just a small amount. Filipino OFWs, whether they are DH or Entertainer, can earn that much and more without having to having to find someone to give them money thru internet. I guess if she plans to deceive your friend, she could have asked more than that in 2 years time. anyway, i haven't seen sites where you can find alleged scams but i do know in search engines that if you search for filipina being married to a foreigner, most of them are news about filipina being used for migration purposes to be able to stay in the philippines or filipina being abused or killed or even chopped by men they thought they can trust.....
i hope this enlightens you not be have prejudice about filipino women.

That is a little naive of him. He hasn't even met the woman and had already sent over money. If he wants to marry the gal why don't he visit the country to see for himself if she is who she say she is and take it from there instead of conversing with someone that could be a fake.

Her brother cannot stand in for her at a wedding. The US does not recognize proxy marriages. That's only allowed in countries where the couple are unable to meet in person before marriage because of religious beliefs This "brother" is actually her husband - that's why he answers the phone. Your dad is sending money to a married woman who is conning him and sending her and her husband money. She is never coming to the US to visit him. This happened to a friend's dad but in his case it was a Romanian woman, same story about a 'brother' who turned out to be her real husband and apparently she had "married" 10 other guys and conned them all into sending money If your dad has all that money why hasn't he even gone to Ghana to meet her? Why would anyone agree to "marry" a person they had never even met or spent time with? I would call the police, non emergency number, and tell them what's going on

Yes.
Someone I know has done the same thing. I always hear that she wants to come here but it's something to do with the visa etc why she can't. I think it's all a scam. Tell your friend to quit being lazy and go out to meet someone.

Takes me back. When I was young I had a correspondence with a woman from honduras. She then deciced I was going to bring her to the states, She told me the price of a airline ticket etc. over 1000 bucks. When I broke it off she was very angry. she threatened to give my name and address to every old woman she met. Phillipine women are very attractive and easy to fall for. Many men dreram of having a pretty young thing. I was in phillipines. 500 bucks is nothing. He should offer to fly there to meet her and see what happens>

Just have your friend watch that program on T.V. where they show murders and trials and all that (I think it's Court TV?, I'm not sure). I watched this episode where this Philippino woman meets an American man, he sends her a bunch of money over time, eventually he sends for her, they get married and as soon as she becomes a U.S citizen she kills her husband... You never know, over the internet, who you're really dealing with. It could be a man your friend's sending money to! Even if she's sent pictures, it could be someone else's pictures. Tell you friend to be careful!

My husband recent is a victim of the scam. He think he in love with the Filipino girl that he chat on line . He went there meet her. Told my daughter that he wants to marry her because she wants a green card in the United States . He is going to divorce me that he fall out in love with me. She is 24 years old only, 3 years older than my daughter. My daughter found so disgusting what her father did to his family. He is 51 years old more than half of her age. How can we report to immigration before she come in as a tourist. We still marry.
