It can for a while, yes. Not in the sense that you do the best job possible because you're just that into work, but because you are trying to distract yourself from the reasons why you have a chip on your shoulder.

However, it can make you too focussed on work and you can get burnt out without even realizing it. It also makes you so focussed that you end up biting anyone's head off when they distract you from what you are trying to achieve, which can come of as selfish or rude.

So I suppose it can certainly make you very focussed on your work for a time, but you're likely to get burnt out and not have any friends. Not worth it in my opinion.

No it causes you to be more self centered. More difficult to get along with.....

Carrying around a chip on your shoulder does YOU more harm than just letting it go.

No, it actually distorts your focus and causes you to perform below your capacity.
