Bad news is reported more often because more people watch it. Ratings for a news show go up when more people watch it, and the shows are able to sell commercials at higher rates.

It's a problematic bias in the world of TV reporting. Even more problematic though is that we tend to watch reporters who are celebrities more than we watch reporters who are good.

That wouldn't be too bad except that reporters become celebrities by getting big names to interview. If they ask difficult questions, the big political figures won't submit to be interviewed by them again. For that reason, our reporters have stopped asking difficult questions - an example would be when no one asked why we were invading Iraq when it had nothing to do with 9/11.

Because we are a "sinful" ppl, (we are BORN in that condition!) and as such are "attracted" to look upon or hear of things that are "hurtful" to other ppl in one sense or another. Christians (real ones) are out there in that "fray" trying their level best to help overcome those tragedies whenever & however they can! Once the "rapture" takes place & the Holy Spirit (He who restrains) is taken out of this world...that "bad news" will increase 100 fold, or maybe even more! (Talk about hell on Earth) and there won't be any "good" ppl around to help one another! **sigh** How very sad, that is why I pray hard that ppl will seek to know their Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, TODAY while there is still time!

Bad news sells better. It's very eye-catching. People are also more likely to read about a tragedy somewhere else because it makes them feel better that it's not happening to them.

Good question. I have been wondering the same thing. In fact I sent an e-mail to our local NBC channel regarding this kind of publicity. Of course, I can't see that it helped any but at least I told them.
