It doesn't matter. Ask yourself this question. Did the Yankees win a championship with A-Rod? Did any team A-Rod was with, win a championship? The answer is no. Let him go. His post season numbers are far from impressive.
A-Rod and his agent Scott Boras is nothing more than a mercenary. It's not about winning championships with A-Rod, it's about the money. If this story is true it just proves what I've said all along. A-Rod doesn't have the guts to stick it out in New York.
Whoever gets him gets the curse of A-Rod along with him. Scott Boras has single handedly ripped the heart out of baseball. Basically what A-Rod and Boras are saying is, screw the fans. Screw the blue collar guy who can't afford more than a ticket or two a year to go and see this cheap mercenary play a kids game and make millions doing it..
Believe me, the Yankees have done more with less. They don't need A-Rod. With the money they save the Yankees can bring in badly needed pitching and no doubt a quality 3rd baseman without a A-Rod ego. I'm glad this has happened because finally the Yankees can get back to business and not worry about what A-Rod is doing 24/7.
It could be that the Cubs offered A-Rod not only substantial money but a part ownership in the team. There was talk of it back in August.

Where did you hear this, I'm on ESPN's web site now and it mentions nothing like that. I also did a google search and couldn't find that anywhere. I hope he does opt out, the Yankees don't need him, he is way way over rated, yea he can hit, but it's pitching and defense that wins games not hitting, and defensively he is just average. He chokes most of the time in a clutch situation, there are exceptions but he is definitely not a clutch player, and he has the WORST post season batting average in MLB history, for the amount of at bats he has had. The Yankees are much better off getting a good defensive 3rd baseman, hits decently, and using the extra money they would have paid A Rod for pitching. I hated the deal 4 years ago, and I've seen nothing he has done in the last 4 years to change my mind.

Im an Indians fan. But I really wouldnt worry about it, teams rise & fall fast & its usually pretty unpredictable as far as who will win or be good. There are surprises every year & often the favorites at the beginning doesnt win. My point is, forget about the stats, hes replaceable i think, I think there is some things more important than stats & right now there is just tension between the NY media, fans & Arod & it doesnt look like it is working for him. Remember when the Yankees won all those World Series in the 90's? On paper they were not as impressive as they are now. Im a big believer in getting fresh starts & I think it was time for Torre & I dont think they will lose anything by getting rid of Arod, I think they will be getting rid of a distraction. Besides they havent won anything with Arod & hes bad in the postseason which is when it matters.

Good, if he goes, I'm glad he's gone. It just proves he's in it for the money. He couldn't do anything in the postseason, and the Yankees never got a sniff of a World Series with him.
And this Jeseth character needs to get his facts straight. It is the Yankees who told A-Rod to "f" off, that if he opts out, then they won't negotiate with him. Just another Boston fan who doesn't get it.
To me, it sounds like Boras has already struck a deal with another team, which is tampering.
This Scott D is also making up crap. There have been NO Yankee players who said they would leave if Torre was gone, and Cashman even talked it over with the veterans. Playes like Posada, Jeter, Pettitte and Rivera are close with Girardi, as he won three rings with the Yankees, and also Mattingly. Pena is popular because of his work with Posada as a catcher, his enthusiasm, and his ability to relate to the young Spanish speaking players.
Yeah, the Yankees will really go downhill with young arms like Joba, Hughes, Kennedy and a bunch of others on the way up.

Of course Alex would opt out. No offense to the Yankees. They are a good team. That's why they make it to the playoffs year after year. However, they can't close. They choke.
The Yankees are a high paid "glory" team that really aren't a "team". They're a bunch of single individual stars.
And, with Joe leaving, why stay? The Yankees are going to go downhill. Maybe not next year, but they will. They lose a great manager. Many players made that comment that if Joe leaves, they're going to leave.
Alex is leaving because since he's been there, the Yankees haven't gone past the first round.
He wants to go somewhere where they're going to win.
Plain and simple.

Kobe Rodriguez...I mean, Alex Rodriguez, will go to another clubhouse and poison it with his ego. Sure, he is an unbelievable talent in the regular season, but stats in October is where legends are ultimately made.....not in early August in Kansas City.
Maybe AAA 2b Angel Chavez can transfer to the position, since he is a blue-chip prospect & deserves a shot at being a starter in 2008.

I said it weeks ago...........There was no doubt in my mind that if the Yankees didn't make it to the series AND win A-Rod would walk..........He had no loyality to the Yankees and since he got no ring he wasn't going to stay.........I don't care what's written or said about it but that's the main reason........He could wind up in Boston at 3rd because Lowell might not be resigned and I think Boston will come up with big bucks to get him..........I feel sure he and his agent think that along with the money Boston is the best place right now for up to pick up that World Series Ring............The Yankees are going to be rebuilding next season and we still don't know who's staying or going.........As for who will play 3rd between free agents and their minor league teams I'm sure they have a few in mind for that position............CAT

Besides there's supposed to be a media freeze for 48 hours AFTER the World Series concludes, even if it means 7 games. So no managers named, no opted outs, nothing but World Series coverage is supposed to be announced!
Free agents have 15 days after the Series to file. So, again, nothing can be official for a while.
ESPN's nuts are going to be in a wringer!

I haven't seen anything in the news about it but if it's true it doesn't suprise me at all. My feeling is if he wants to go then go. Don't let the door hit him in the a z z on the way out. He's an example on why the sport is a joke now with these out of hand salaries. To him greed is all that matters to him.
