"If I were a carpenter
And you were a lady,
Would you marry me anyway?
Would you have my baby?

If a tinker were my trade
Would you still find me?
Carrying the pots I made,
Following behind me.

Save my love for sorrow
Save my love for lonely
I've given you my tomorrow
Love me only

If I worked my hands in wood,
Would you still love me?
Answer me, babe: "Yes I would,
I'll put you above me."

If I were a miller
at a mill wheel grinding,
would you miss your colored blocks
and your soft shoe shining?"

I love that song. My boyfriend plays that every now and then and it always helps me to realize that love is all you need! Money is just a plus.
So no, occupation is not important, only the hours. I don't wanna marry a carpenter if he has to work into the wee hours fo the night and I never see him! But I guess as long as he's happy then that would make me happy too!

I prefer that he be able to have weekends off but no, whatever he likes is what matters. In my case I am blessed enough that he is into technical stuff and this just has the added bonus of being a high paying area of interest...but still even if he liked driving a school bus I would love him the same.

Very nice.

If I loved you, you could be a carpenter or a fake homeless man with a sign on the side of the expressway begging for change. Ha. Is the occupation important? No, as long as me and my family is not in danger.

Let me guess? Johnny Kash
But to answer your question, yes his profession matters.
Some professions would be objectional to me. such as working making bombs, poluteing the earth, in the military.
Police man or even a fireman. I want someone that is going to be around for a while. They may love those jobs because they have way to much testesterone.
Life is precious and I want someone that realizes that.

If that person really is the love of your life, you do not care what they do for a living.

Why not just ask a question instead of hiding behind song lyrics?
