ok so pretty much i have to write a paper about how i would treat my 'people' if i were a conqueror....which is all well and fine but i need examples from history and i cant seem to find any to support my arguments, which are these: Socially, i would allow my people freedom so that they don't feel to caged, and they wont be prone to revolting. religiously they can preactice what ever religion they want as long as they stay respectful ( i was thinking of using Akbar as an example here). And Politicaly i would put my own leaders in control and take the political power away from the leaders that i had conquored.

I hope this is'nt to hard to understand, and i'm sorry for any mispellings...i'm just sort of freeking out because its do tomorrow, and usuailly essays+history are my strong points...and i'm not used to having to ask for help!. lol

Study the "experiences" of the Spanish, the English, and the French as they came to the New World.

The Spaniards treated the natives like crap. Well, actually saying that the natives were treated like crap is a mere understatement; they were tortured, oppressed, etc.

The English either were nice to them or treated them terribly.

The French were nice for the most part. They weren't interested in converting the natives; they were more interested in trade.

You can do a quickie Internet research on these topics.

On religious tolerance, study the example of the Netherlands in early and modern Europe as well as England.

I would use the example of Cyrus the Great of Persia.
He left the rulers of conquered territories in place, with supervision of a satrap (governor). Conquered people were allowed to live how they wished and to practice their religions, so long as they gave their loyalty to the Persian emperor.

Look at the Roman Empire. They were able to expand all over Europe and western Asia and make their society the envy of the known world. They absorbed their conqured subjects into their society, army, and their culture.

i agree, you should research the roman empire, right around the time of the punic wars. you should use that as a model since you pretty much had the same beliefs

You should look into Alexander the Great and his expansion of Hellenism. He conquered other cultures, but he never took their culture from them, but instead accepted it and combined it with his own.
