Here we have an Adams winner who was a solid head coach for the Phoenix Coyotes at the beginning of the decade. Every time there is a vacancy, retreads like Mike Keenan, Tom Renney, Dave Lewis, Claude Julien, etc. get hired. What did Francis do to get the Ted Nolan treatment in terms of trying to get an NHL gig?

Bob Francis is a lousy coach, only a 0.500 record at the NHL level.

As far as Mike Keenan is concerned, he is among the top coaches in NHL history, and aside from his personality, is considered a hockey genius (even if he didn't like me back in the day)

Tom Renney has been successful at the NHL level with a career record above 0.500 not to mention success at the junior level and internationally (2 WJC gold medals)

Dave Lewis is not a good coach, but I think someone else will take a chance on him.............unfortunately. He inherited a great team (and system) from Scotty Bowman and had to rely on his own skills (or lack thereof) in Boston.

Claude Julien has been relatively successful, not many coaches in the last 10 years can claim to be over 0.500 with Montreal...Julien can. He led New Jersey to a team record 47 wins last year before being unceremoniusly dumped by Lamoriello.

Each of the above coaches is far superior to Bobby Francis (who wasn't that great a player either otherwise he would have more than 14 career games)

Wow, the laddie above me hit the nail on the head. Yes, CLEARLY we must face the fact that he's just "not that good". Because you know... the Jack Adams Award is like the Razzies of the NHL. There is nothing more to it. There could be no other reason. NOTHING!

Sorry peeps, but I still disagree. Gretzky is a crappier coach in my opinion.

He was such a great coach that I had forgotten all about him. I looked him up and sure enough, not a great coach. Out of the list you provided, he's the only coach without a winning record in his NHL coaching career, so I think that tells you why he is not employed at the NHL level
