today the apartment above me had a small fire on the stove. It caused the sprinkler system in their apartment to go off until the fire department cme and shut off the water. The water came in my apartment like it was raining. It destoyed my bed to wher you could ring out the water and all clothes in the closet in the bed room and living room. My couch and love seat also got wet along with the carpet and paint damage to the walls. I do not know if water fo in the tv but I took pictures of where the tv sits and video of the water comming down the wall just in case it decided to go out soon. Who is responsible for my damaged things the building or the tenates above me and what do I do if they do not replace my beds. This is upsetting me because the room destroyed is my girls room and their bed is now GONE so they are sleeping in my room and I took the love seat that did not ger wet.

Actually the tenants are to blame...the landlord or property owners can not be held responsible.

I would advise you to get "Renter's Insurance" it's great to have in these cases. It really doesn't cost that much...check around on who has the best rate.

Also covers you if someone breaks in and takes all your stuff.

The word here is "renters insurance" without it, your at risk. The property owners have their own insurance for their safety, so should you.

The owner of your property has property damage insurance - you will need to report the damage to your landlord, who will in turn file a claim with his/her insurance carrier.
