because they are in a conference that isnt' "smash mouth" football. Only USC and Oregon, this year, have that toughness. Cal is built on speed and some skill but now when it gets gritty they can't hang on. Only the Big 10, Big 12 & SEC teams muster toughness and can hang in a marathon.

Cal is just being Cal. Tedford's teams always start strong then take a dump during the second half of the season.
