I am going to be 6 months pregnant on thursday, yesterday i noticed my nipples are very tender and when i squeez a little clear liquid stuff comes out only a small amount, does this mean i am starting to produce colostrum? I have never had this happen before. I dont think i am leaking yet but if this is starting to happen and it is colostrum how much longer do you think before i need to buy thoes breasts pads for the leaking?

Also i am very confused, in weeks i am 23 weeks 4 days which works out that i am nearly 6 months pregnant which means i should only have 3 months to go but i am due in february and in months it works out that i still have 4 months to go how does this work out? Is it true that we are really pregnant for 10 months cause all my dates are correct.

You are pregnant for a total of 40 weeks. If you are counting a month as only 4 weeks, then yeah, it's 10 months. But there are not exactly 4 weeks per month.

As for the colostrom, it's highly variable. Some women don't have any, some women have milk that leaks continuously from very early on, some have episodes of leaking, etc. If it isn't coming out unless you squeeze, you might not leak. But by the pads to have on hand just in case if you're worried.

As far as the colostrum goes it varies from person to person. I started being able to express some at around 4 months and I'm 39 weeks now and have never needed pads. Some women need pads though. I won't need them until my milk comes in.

As far as being pregnant for 10 months goes, I guess yes you are pregnant for 10 months IF you count 4 weeks per month. That's only 28 days per month and there are 30 or 31 days each month. Those extra days are what is throwing you off. It's frustrating, I know. The best thing I can recommend is to go by the furthest away. If you are 32 weeks that's 8 months, but not really. If you look at a calendar it's 7. Otherwise, when you get into your last month you are going to feel like you have been stuck forever. I just made the mistake a few days ago in telling someone I had 10 days left. I knew it was close to 10 days but when I actually counted it was 13. Those 3 days this late in the game took forever to pass. NOW I have 10 days left. You don't want to feel like you've been nine months pregnant for 2 months is all I'm trying to say. Good luck in working it all out. I think it's just easier to use weeks and let everyone else interpret it how they want.

I'm sorry I can't help you with the colostrum part of your question as I never leaked. I breastfed, but never had any significant leakage before or after my baby was born. However, I might recommend at least buying the breast pads soon. I think you'll know when you need to start using them. At least then, you'll have them handy.
As far as the months of pregnancy, you have to figure that when you count the weeks of your pregnancy, the first two weeks counted are before you actually conceived the baby. Also, the months are not 4 weeks a piece. They are more like 4 1/2 weeks each. So if you are 23 weeks pregnant, that doesn't actually make you almost 6 months pregnant. You have to figure the average pregnancy lasts 40 weeks - which, by the "4 weeks per month" chart would be 10 months.

I've already started leaking a little colostrum and I'm just 17 weeks along right now. You could go ahead and get some nursing pads, but chances are you're not going to be leaking enough for it to require that. But at least you'll have them on hand.

You are pregnant for 40 weeks total which yes seems like it's almost 10 months! But the reason is your pregnancy is dated from your last period, not from conception.

1, yes you're producing colostrum. I started producing it at 12 weeks! Every woman is different and you may never even leak. I did from 12 weeks on though and had to use nursing pads because I leaked a LOT.. It's so ironic, because I wasn't even able to breastfeed, my milk never came in :( .

2, you're not 6 months.
Here's a way to figure it out...
Whatever your due date is, that is 9 months.
one month before your due date, to the date, you'd be 8 months pregnant.

Ex: I was due on July 27th. Only July 27th, I was 9 months pregnant. On June 27th, I was 8 months. On May 27th, I was 7 months... Make sense?
So whatever your due date is, on that date each month, you are a month further along.
Don't go by the 4 weeks=one month thing, it irritates me when people do that because you're not 10 months pregnant when your baby is born! Sheesh.. Ha

You're pregnancy should last 38-42 weeks, which means you have 15-19 weeks left, which is about 4 months. You could be leaking colostrum, I think it's normal.

The gestation of a pregnancy is 40 weeks. That's from your LMP.
If you count 40 weeks (to the day) fromthe first day of your last period... that is 10 months.
If you just count month to month from the first day of your last period it's nine months.

Here's an example...
Let's say your LMP was September 1, which was a Saturday.
... if you count every Saturday after September 1, for 40 weeks... that would be your due date (10 months)
... if you count the 1st of every month after September 1st... that would be nine calendar months.

PS... the colostrum thing is normal... I started leaking at 6 months too. It only lasted two weeks.

That's colostrum, but it should not be leaking so much that you need a breast pad. Frankly, you shouldn't need breast pads until your baby is born and you're leaking breast milk.

Yes, we are actually pregnant for 10 months.

With respect to weeks vs. months, there are, on average, 4.3 weeks in a month. You are pregnant for about 40 weeks, at least that's when you due date is set. 40/4.3 = 9.3, so you really are pregnant about 9 months. People say 10 because they think of a month as 4 weeks, but it is longer than that. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

You 10 months pregnant if you count 4 weeks in a month. If you count 4 and 5 weeks in a month then it is 9 months. Most people like to argue that fact but whatever.Like I said it depends on how you count each week in a month. As for breast pads you should probably get them soon.
