Unemployment isn't a socialist concept because while you work, a portion of your paycheck is taken by the state government for the unemployment fund that is utilized for that state.
Furthermore, unemployment is limited in the duration you can use it. 6 months on average, 9 months at the most.
And yes - I am a Republican and I did file for unemployment following my discharge from the US Navy while I settled into civilian life once more.

I'm not a repub but no, it's money that you had already paid into with every pay check and just as much was paid into that fund by the employer. It doesn't make you a socialist to get the money you earned. I also used to be a detective that went out on worker comp. cases and that was fraud all the way. In two years I only found one person that was legit. Kind of makes you think of how much people are screwing the government all the time.

No, It just make you unemployed.
Be unemployed, has nothing to do with your party affiliation.
Yes, Republicans become unemployed too, I know a dozen or so, including myself some time ago.
You will get through hard times and fined another job and hopefully it would be much easier while Republicans in the White House. They would not (at list they do not want raise taxes), so new jobs would be created.
Good luck.
P.S. You did not tell us, what kind of job you do(did).

I'm not a Republican, but I would think that filing for unemployment would just make you unemployed and in need of financial assistance till you can find a new job...

No, non-socialists have been known to take out insurance, including unemployment insurance, as well as socialists, Republicans as well as Democrats.

hardly. Unemployment is a temporary benefit. After 26 weeks, you're on your own.
Most peoplke on unemployment are off it aftert a while. It's designed that way so it doens't become a way of life.
It's paid for by you, indirectly. It's part of your overall compensation package. You din't work, you're not eligible.

No, because we actually pay into the unemployment insurance. I do think that we should all buy private insurance for those circumstances though. No, I do not need unemployment, I have more than enough savings to make it without working.

Its not a binary thing.
We are not a capitalist country. We are not a socialist country.
We're somewhere in between. We're more pure capitalism than, say, most of Europe ... and they have much better educational test scores and health care because of it ... but they don't have our level of productivity and percentage of billionaires.
Captitalism is cruel. Socialism does not inspire creativity.
Neither is a good solution.
