What was running through your head? What did you do?

I was in Washington DC. Had left my house, only moments before the first plane hit. I was waiting in line at an Einstein's bagel when someone said that a plane had hit the WTC. We all assumed it was a tiny one, and a major mistake.

In my morning class, we started to hear fire alarms from surrounding buildings; and learned later of a series of bomb scares around the university.

I was working for the student union, which went into Lockdown, and I was called in to help staff and keep an eye for distraught students and others in the building.

I had 4 large TVs that were playing the images NON STOP. The continued repeating of the images was by far the worst and most disturbing thing. Those images are burned into my skull forever thanks to Fox New, CNN, and MSNBC. Networks I will never watch again because of it.

The 4th plane was headed for DC, presumably the white house- which was 4 blocks from where I was working. The next few weeks, or months, my commute on my bike down L, K and I streets- which had Humvees and armed military each corner was disconcerting.

Of course, my experience pales to those IN the buildings, those who were on 110 and 395 next to the Pentagon (including one of the profs I knew) who say it first hand.

At the time, I was in 3rd grade i think. My school has a schedule in which we are one for 3 months, off for one. i was off at that time, since september is the off month. So for some reason i woke up early. I turned on the TV just intime for "A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE" . I thought it was fake. I thought it was a commercial or action movie. So I kept fliipping the channels to see if anything else was on. There really wasnt. So then when my parents woke up, i told them and they were devastated. they were crying and everything. They sat and watched the news the whole day. I couldnt conceive the thought at the time, so i didnt really care about it. i was too young to relaly think about it seriously

I was walking down the hallway of the school I taught at. A secretary told me that an airplane had just hit one of the World Trade Center towers. I thought it was just a horrible accident at the time. I walked into the school library, where a TV was on, when the second plane hit.

I was in shock most of the day, then angry at the terrorist who attacked our nation.

My reserve center called me, notifying me of possible mobilization. But the superintedent never cancelled school, or the "open house" that was scheduled. I thought that it was in bad taste at the time.

My dad dropped me off for my morning classes at the community college I attended. We listened to the radio on the way over there and the DJ said that Manhattan Island was covered in smoke.

I went to the cafeteria at the college and watched the footage on TV. One woman said that her uncle worked at the Pentagon and she hoped he was okay.

A dozen things ran through my mind during that time but I still maintained my faith in God.

I was getting my phone service switched to our local cable service that morning. They arrived and told me about the first plane. We watched as the second plane hit the building. At that moment I realized it wasn't an accident. That this was planned and it was really terrible.

I was in the hospital and didn't tell anyone I was there. Of course there's nothing to do there but watch tv so it was pretty scary. I thought something else was going to happen and no one would know where to find me.

I was watching GMAC and getting dressed to go to work. I worked for an airline. One week later I was out of a job because they laid off 1000 of us.
