for worse or better?
I'm very concerned because I've been working PT in a restaurant and it seems it's been gradually getting slower, and slower, slower and even more S L O W E R for the past couple of yrs. now if not longer.
Plus another professional that I know in a totally different field commented they thought "it was really bad out there right now".
However then sometimes you read articles that the economy is doing great!
It is not great in my eyes.
But anyway what's YOUR opinion??
I'm worried ..... !!

Right now, it's in the drain and going down......

Hopefully soon, it will bounce back......

But, as long as Bush remains President, don't expect much.....

Well, you're not going to get any real news out of the mainstream *business* press anymore these days....they are all about sucking up to the CEOs, and it *would* take another Great Depression hitting us all *hard* before the Billionaires even felt a pinch...so they're *going* to say everything is great no matter what.

They are the band of musicians playing on the deck of the _Titanic_ as it sank, ok? Oddly amusing, but mostly disturbing in their lack of real relevance here.

My take on it is simple. We are headed for a repeat of the mid 1970s. Prices are going up, deficits are too, so are trade imbalances....but *growth* is stagnant. Meaning we aren't getting any more *jobs* out of this for our troubles. You can blame Halliburton and the Iraq debacle for this, in much the same way the Vietnam Conflict was to blame back then.

It wasn't just that the war was expensive either. It was that it was expensive and *unsuccessful*. Failure costs everyone *but* those Billionaires money.

And....it's going to be worse than the 1970s too, just because our social safety nets--social services, welfare programs, our support for labor unions--are all in tatters, and now we have *two* major domestic disasters to recover from, the California wildfires *and* still the rebuilding of New Orleans so folks can *go home* and go back to their lives. And a lot of this is by design, just because the CEOs and HMOs say so.

So yeah. Things are going to suck *hard* for a long time. No guarantee they'll ever get better. Thank Bush for this, thank Big Oil for *killing* the internet-driven New Economy, and thank *every other* President since Reagan for this. Because that's where it all started. People gave up *unity and stability* both socially and economically....and for what?

To get out of the economic stagnation of the 1970s. And yet we are back to Square One. This tells me we have *not* been doing the right thing here (in the sense of the proper thing, not the *rightwad* thing, mind you).

Just my three cents. ^_^ Have a Star!
