I think....for example when talking about a plant that manufacturers a part. An acceptable part is one that falls between certain parameters (it's usable).

exact means the perfectly made part--dead on

precise means the part is within an acceptable range

not sure, like they say above they mean pretty much the same thing, it is the usage that may or may not be interchangable depending on your preference.

eg. She was very precise with her measurements because she wanted the suit to be an exact duplicate of the one she made for her twin.
--to me precise can be used more easily as a description of something someone does and exact is more a descriptor of a thing but i hope you are better able to understand exactly/precisely what i am trying, but miserably failing to explain in a more precise/exact manner

I think the only principle difference is that which you perceive yourself... only you can fit something between exact and precise that will mean anything to you, in my opinion. 10 pts to you! (Good luck with this)
