It sure can. Bettas are only aggressive towards other fish that are, or look like, Bettas. Long flowing fins can provoke a Betta to attack, but fish like Mollies and Platies are fine. Just be sure you have at least a 10 gallon tank to provide the Molly with growing room. Email me if you have any questions.

EDIT: Mollies can be safely acclimated to freshwater (they are already acclimated when you buy them), so that really isn't a problem. Also, Angelfish are often too aggressive for Bettas, and Bettas often make attempts to go after the Angel's fins.

Seeing as Bettas have widely varying temperments, you can't know with the molly until you mix them.
However, go nuts! Bettas of all breeds are agressive, but only to their species. If the Molly is nipping, separate. If not, just watch them for a week, and if all is well, then you're set!
( This is to prove the fact that Betta fish personalities are widely varying:
I can remove the divider in my 10 gal tank with 2 bettas ( 1 Veil Tail 1 Crowntail ) and they don't fight. Which is HIGHLY unusual for their species. But then again I keep a close watch and will separate them if anything starts.( I do not support fish fighting ) They may just be behaving for their Mommy, Haha.
It might have to do with the fact that since they were JUST old enough to be separated from the rest of their siblings as fry( obviously they were not from the same batch.) , they have split a tank, and may be very used to eachothers company. )

I would say yes to the platy, no to the molly. Mollies are brackish water fish and so they have different requirements. It also depends on the betta itself, some are more placid than others. If you want to try a community tank, bettas can be put with khuli loaches, neons, cardinal tetras, angelfish (in tanks of at least 30 gallons and only if they are both friendly), platies, danios, plecos, corydoras catfish, upside down catfish, and guppies (I have had several guppies do well with bettas, but it depends on the betta) and some other small fish that don't have long flowing fins. Avoid labryninth fish like kilifish, and gouramis, or fish that are much bigger than bettas. Also make sure you have a decent heater and keep the water between 73-77 degrees.
