He was from Bermuda but of Scottish ancestry. His ancestry was one of the reasons he served as aide de camp to General Washington during the American War For Independence. His Scottish ancestry gave him knowledge of the Battle of Powderpens. Washington used identical tactics to those used by the Scots in defeating British forces in that battle. The British are wonderful people. But, their generals are not great believers in "lessons learned".

He was born in Bermuda. His father was a Jew but his mother was of Scottish descent. I think his dad died or left and he grew up without a father. He later migrated to America
