question on racketeering/extortion/protection scam?

On a technical level, is there a difference between racketeering and extortion? I see these terms used inter-changeably, but I just want to be sure ^_^.

Racketeering and scamming are similar to divest funds from people without any economic benefits using fraudulent means. Extortion is another act since it uses force or threat to get money from people.
