I am butting them together , 2courses high and 4 across, the backerboard is installed to the studs in the wall. Do I need to wait any time between courses?

No offense at all; and after Multiple thousands of sq. ft. of tile, my first suggestion is DON'T.

No grout lines?

Certainly a vertical installation; as I do them is installing the bottom course; let it set/dry; then proceed. For verticals I often BRACE the tile to hold it in place. In a vertical; you not only deal with SHEAR weight; but the mortar and gravity.

If you don't have a brace under the first course, as Doc says, I would definitely wait. Also, why are you not grouting? The tiles, if butted together, may contract and expand causing cracking if there is no joint in between them. Grout is more than aesthetic.

You should consider smaller tile and grout joints. IF you decide to go with the 18's go slow, lots of bracing and let set good be for second course and good luck.
