I found a site, with some 55 words stories. I used it, but I changed some of the wordings, and the name of the family, and some other things, such as it says "6", and I used "3". It is copyrighted. Is this okay?

Okay... good thing I didn't do anything with the story yet. I guess I'll just do my own story.

If you read it somewhere, it is copyrighted. By law, any original work is automatically copyrighted by the creator. It need not be a registered copyright. Any unauthorized use of this work is copyright infringement and the user could be sued.

Depending on how much you changed the piece, you may still be guilty of plagaism. If the structure of the story is basically the same, but only the details, as you descibe, have changed, then this is NOT okay. There should be no problem if you only did this as a practice exercise, of some kind, but any attempt to actually publish this, even if you only post it on line, would be an illegal act.

I need you to REALLY trust in what I advise. I am a freelance graphic designer, and I DO know copyright law.

changing a few words and switching a few names doesn't make not copyrighted. it's copyrighted when you take someone else's idea and make it your own, in order to make it yours you have the change at least 25 % of the content as well.

It's dangerous ground really.
Even though you may change a few words and numbers, it is still theft of intellectuall property because you are stealing someone' idea.

No, if a work is copyrighted, it has to be quoted directlly and credit given to the writer.
