They are nitrogenous bases. A nucleotide is a mono- di- or tri-phosphate group, a ribose (RNA) or de-oxyribose (DNA) sugar and a nitrogenous base. In DNA as per the original question, the incorporated nucleotides are all de-oxyribonucleic monophosphates.
