at church we have a "safe" thing where we decorate the trunks of our cars/entire car in a theme. We park our cars in the parking lot and fill the trunk with candy and people trick or treat from us that way. The theme we chose is the 50s. We have the usual Party City stuff. How can we go ALL OUT this year and win? I thought of christmas lights, but I dont have electricity connecting to the car. What are some "high tech" things we can do?

You can get an "inverter" from an auto supply store that converts the car battery's DC into AC current that can easily run a string or two of those tiny Christmass tree lights. You don't need to by the biggest, most expensive inverters if you only plan to run one or two strings for only a couple of hours.

Why not just put a basket in the trunk with candy and then sit in lawn chairs and pray that by the time the judges roll around, it'll be decked out 50's style.

With the 50's theme, you could find an old record player and find a few records and set that up. For candy, get old fashioned candy like Sugar Daddy's and Smarties and candy buttons(they only cost maybe 50 cents or so)and put it in a funky-looking candy dish.
