there is a equine school in missouri. i was going to go there, but its 18,000 a semester. i couldnt find anything cheaper before i got married. you dont have to go to school to be a trainer. I am a horse trainer, and i didnt go to a special school. i have learned from experience. My parents rescued a blind 5 year old, green broke stallion when i was 18. he was my very first horse, and i trained him. he could ride better than all of the seeing horses that i know. he would swim, climb hills, and run like the wind. he was a wonderful horse! he taught me so much.
To train him, I watched other trainers, and took what i liked and molded everything all togther to form my own style. I even took some stuff from lyons and parelli.
now i am training my own 8 month old filly. she is very bright and learns very quickly.
good luck in your endeavor.

You say you want to be a vet and trainer? Well get good grades in high school, go to a university that offers a Vet Med degree AND has an equestrian program. Kansas State is one of the best in the country. Here's a link to their vet scool:
http://www.vet.ksu.edu/
And here's one to their equestrian program:
http://www.kstatesports.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=400&KEY=&SPID=216&SPSID=3131
There may bre something similar closer to home, so look around.
Personally, I would not reccommend just trying to become a trainer. The horse industry doesn't pay well unless you start out rich and with horsepower and money to exploit it. I have a AQHA National title and 15 yrs AJQHA top 10 and many many state championships to my credit and I couldn't make enough $$$ to pay my bills working for someone else. You need your own facility, PAID FOR, full of boarders & students to pay the monthly bills and help. You need a 100,000 dollar rig to haul your prodigy (PAID FOR) and you need powerful horseflesh. All in all, a million dollars should be enough to buy a stable, truck & trailer and several lesson horses and a few Champions to build your business. That's why I suggested Vet school!!! Good luck in whatever you choose.

I look for someone with a great work ethic, has initiative and is willing to learn. That means that they get the job done and notice when something needs to be done without being told every time. I also want someone who truly cares about the horses' well being and is not just looking to be able to ride. Working with horses means also learning about their health care, nutritition, first aid and caring enough to ensure their living quarters (stalls, paddocks, run in sheds) and their tack are as clean, dry and safe as possible. For the interview, be honest and open about yourself, your experience, and your future plans. Tell them what you will bring to the job - a good attitude, a sense of humour, a good work ethic, etc. Give them examples from other work experience, hobbies, other activities, school work, etc. that demonstrate what type of person, student and employee you are. The interviewer is just trying to find out if you will fit into their environment and have the right attitude and basic skills to do the job. Most people are willing to take the time to train a person who appears to be committed, hard working, honest and truly wanting the learn. And, they are looking for someone who will stay for a long time.

There are a number of schools where you can live as well as study...Mededith Manor in WV, Potomic Horse Center in MD, etc. Get online and look for riding schools. These schools teach everything from riding and training to breeding and management. They are all over the US, it may be a good option for you. I went to two of them, I love it. Keep working towards the goal, you will achieve it.
