The Garmin and TomToms.
Do they keep themselves updated or do I have to buy new models in the future to keep myself accurate?
Thanks in advance for any help!

With Garmin, you will have to pay for the updates, which come on SD cards or DVDs. TomTom, I believe, offers free updates for a while (possibly through their website). Then you probably have to pay.

There is no way for these GPS receiver to update the road data through the GPS satellites. Those satellites do not have the bandwidth to send data, and Garmin and TomTom don't own satellites for beaming map updates.

All GPS's update themselves, because they use a satelite. The satelites are just really strong video camreas sending messages to the space station/news station and even to the GPS's.

No, and the software and map updates can cause lots of problems. they can only update their position via the satellites, not the actual programs.

I believe they update themselves as they are linked to satellites
