You should NEVER remove your fish from their tank for a simple, routine cleaning. Just siphon the detritus from the gravel and clean off the glass and decor. Removing the fish from the tank is VERY stressful and not recommended... If you were tearing down your whole tank or treating it with medications that you needed to remove, or trying to annihilate snails, then you can remove the fish, but for standard cleanings, don't.

EDIT: You should NEVER do a complete water change! That is extremely stressful for the fish, and disrupts the nitrogen cycle, leading to ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate spikes that are toxic to fish.

no this only puts more stress on the fish...just get a good syphoner...i happen to like the one that connects to the sink faucet and vaccums the water and junk that way.but the ones you siphon into a bucket work as well it just takes a bit longer, only siphon about 1/3 of the water out any more starts putting your fish into shock, and siphon at the bottom where the gravel is.remember your fish do not live in 100% clean water in the wild...nor would they here ,dont siphon all the water out and then put all brand new water .make sure you add some aquarium salt afterwords to keep them from going into shock.depending on the size of your tank ,you shouldnt have to clean it too often,,maybe once a month, the larger the tank ,the less maintence it takes.

If you only need to change a small percent of the water removing the fish isn't necessary. But if it involves a complete cleaning of the tank or bowl you probably need to take the fish to another bowl of water until you clean and condition the aquarium. So in some cases, yes.

Depends on how your cleaning it. If your draining the water out then YES. if not u, dont have to but it disturbs the fish and its alot harder to clean out if u dont drain the water

no, you must leave the fish in the tank with some water, if not your fish will go into shock and die.

No just do a gravel vacuum and they should get out of the way. If not, work around them and be careful.
