i want to install in engine on my 1987 s10. its been parked for about 3 years i dont know what else should be done when installing engine. i mean things like flushing the transmission oil and the flushing out the gas tank. or should these things even have to be done?

yeah go ahead and flush it. and then check everything out. to make sure somthing else doesnt need attention...

then crack open a cold one.

you know what forget all that other stuff... just crack open a cold one.

If it's been sitting that long, then flush the entire fuel system, as well as the coolant system.

Assuming you are putting in a crate motor, everything else should be fine. Try and avoid using any of the ancillaries off the original motor (alternator, water pump, etc.) if you can afford it.

If it has sat for a long time Drain and clean out the fuel tank. any gas that was left in it has probably gone bad by now. flush the radiator and heater core. don't forget new belts and hoses. It wouldn't hurt to change the tranny fluid and filter. Also don't forget to check rear end grease, and brake fluid and brake hoses
