There are colored crayons made with wood-dyes and a hard wax. You just rub them over the scratches or dents to fill them in using a crayon in the color that matches the floor's wood.

That is unique but not expensive ( a buck or two for a fat crayon) so I would not call it a specialized product.

You can buy crayons that are made to fill in the scratches on wood floor - and they work!!! I've used them. They are sold at flooring places or hardware stores. As for the dents - they can sometimes help to make the floor look weathered - if that's the look your going for. Otherwise, not sure on that one!

Yeah, until it's time to give the floor a complete refinish, just go get an oil based stain thats a couple shades darker than your floor and dunk the tip of a rag into the stain and darken the scratch or divet as best u can. (Zar, MinWax, whatever) Be sure to soak the rag in a bucket of water for a day or 2 afterward and don't throw the rag into your outside trash can til the morning of trash pickup.
If you just toss the rag aside after use it is very possible it will spontaneously catch on fire.

Yes, you can buy wood putty at Home Depot or the like. They have many different colors and it works great and is easy to use.

However, my personal opinion is that scratches and dents (natural patina) add to the character of the home and should be left as is.

Old English makes a scratch cover polish. I also saw some markers in Wal*Mart recently near the furniture that is for touching up knicks & scratches.

well the easiest thing would be to put a rug or piece of furniture over it. Another thing you could try are these special markers. they are a lot cheaper than specialist products. you basically just color in the scrathes, they come ina package of different shades, and work pretty well.
