Vector art is a computer generated image that uses a mathematical formula to determing the length and curve of a line. The most well known example of an application using this is Adobe Illustrator's "Pen" tool.

It is based on the work of a French mathemetician named, "Bezier," who determined that any curve can be expressed by graphing three points, including the beginning and end points, PLUS a third, which describes the degree and location of the line's warp.

Do a search for "bezier curve."
