birth control pills take effect?

I had a baby 4 months ago, and had intercourse once since then. I am not pregnant now, have not gotten my period yet, and just started taking the pill. How long should I wait for it to take effect?

Use another form of contraception for the full term of the first cycle. Until you are on the sugar pills. After that you should be covered. Be aware that if you forget to take one, or take it too late, have diarrhea or vomiting, you are not covered and need to use another form of contraception as well as to continue with the pill. Then you will be covered for the next cycle.
