For example, I'm called anti-American because I'm liberal? WHAT? Why would someby wrongfully assume something about me before I speak?
Or that I'm an alarmist because I'm liberal. Once again, wrong.
Or that I'm a socialist because I'm liberal. Not wrong, but pretty far off. I want a mixed, merit-based social/capital economy.
Or that I'm pro-abortion because I'm Liberal. No, I'm pro-choice and I think the fed shouldn't get invloved, but I'm against abortion.
Or that I don't support the troops. Wrong again.
Or that I'm anti-gun because I'm liberal. Wrong.
Or that I party because I'm liberal and a high school student. Still wrong.
Or that I'm aethiest. Wrongish. I won't say there is a god, and I won't say there isn't. I'm not arrogant enough to say that I should know.

And yet people still think they "know" me better than me, even though they haven't even met me personally?
Why? And why continue? And why only in the politics section?

smartr-n-u:
I never voted liberal (I can't vote). And I do support the troops. My uncle was in Iraq (he came home with something wrong with his legs and back), and I wrote to him and supported him.

I know how you feel.

I get called a Neo-Con warmonger on a regular basis and that is so not true.

I'm not even Republican!
I hate the two party system.

I have Liberal and Conservative views but side with Conservatives most of the time.

I'm not a "Bush-bot"

I listen to all forms of media and news.

I'm very blunt and opinionated, sometimes frustrated with the moon-bats on both sides of the aisle.

I have a weird sense of humor and get reported for my comments daily.

I'm still a nice guy and I love my country!

I would fight for my political opponents right to speak freely!

I would then buy them a drink after we argue and say mean things that we don't really mean.

I guess at the end of the day, we are all in this together.

You chose to label yourself a liberal. Liberals are devoted to question everything in our society. That's cool, but it also means that you question some of those things that are the hallmarks of American culture. It frightens people when you threaten to change our society so radically that it may become disfunctional - and rightfully so. America isn't perfect, but it works because of American culture and values. As a liberal, you threaten them. Perhaps some of those values are bad - I don't think so though.

As for you supporting the troops, don't make me laugh! Liberals don't support the military, if you vote for liberals you must realize that those politician will not support our military. If you send them to congress, you don't support the military either. If you really want to support the military, elect conservative democrats - if you can find one any more.

Joe Lieberman, Zell Miller, JFK? Where are these guys?
Rudy Giuliani is a Republican! How weird is that?

Because communication is more complex than a hypercube.

Because people who use labels are associated with all aspects of those labels. Because we aren't perfect thinkers.

Relax. We know you're still solidifying your self-image (everyone is, just that it's particularly true in high school).

Besides, no one's that interested in you, personally. No disrespect intended. You just seem to be taking this way too personally.

I've given you an answer either way.

Oh, a bit more. In the politics section because we are going through a cycle of political bigotry that comes up every few decades in the U.S.

Be careful not to join them. Bad circle, whether they call themselves republicans or democrats or whatever. Best to stick with the patriots (those who put their country ahead of their personal ideology and who don't hate half their country, regardless of party affiliation).

Keep speaking up, regardless.

Wait a minute, are you running for public office? Are you a candidate or what? If you are, then you must stand public scrutiny. Who you are, what you stand for on important issues including your personal life and religious belief. If you're not in politics, then how would your detractors know if you're not so vocal on those issues you mentioned?.

Not only in the politics section, everywhere. Some people just like to stereotype. That's all.
