Nexus above me is right about the Ranger's American players.
In a side note- the Devils only have 9 Americans themselves-

Gionta
Parise
Langenbrunner
Pandolfo
Janssen
Rupp
Martin
Greene
Mottau

How come the Devils have such whiny fans?

Scott Gomez, Chris Drury, Ryan Callahan, Ryan Hollweg, Paul Mara, Andrew Hutchinson.

The line between the Rangers and their AHL team is a gray one. That list is from 13 forwards, 10 defensemen and 2 goalies who play or have a likely possibility of playing with the big team.

For the last few seasons, the Devils have led the league in American players, which is probably why your friend said that.
