My teacher assigned us to come up wih a procedure for decomposing baking soda. The problem is I dont know when to tell that all of the gaseous substance has been left and baking soda is left in its purest form. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Add vinegar, which is a 5% solution of acetic acid, HC2H3O2. When the fizzing has stopped, the reaction is over.

NaHCO3(aq) + HC2H3O2(aq) ===> NaC2H3O2(aq) + CO2(g) + H2O
