One big benefit for using coal in the United States of America is that we mine a significant amount of coal within our borders. In fact, the USA has a larger reserve of recoverable coal than any other nation on Earth. Thus, using coal in place of oil reduces our dependence on foreign oil-producing nations such as Venezuela, Iran, and Saudi Arabia.
