Both are great bikes for the track and street and either will make you happy, same for the ZX-6R as mentioned above. The bike you want to stay away from is the R6 due to its lack of low or mid-range power, which makes it a poor choice for anything other then racing. The CBR600RR was the highest rated bike in 2007 with the most power and lightest weight, however its also the most expensive. The other negative is no back-torquing clutch on the CBR, which to me is very important if you ride on the track and for the extra $600 you're already paying for the CBR is inexcusable since its a race bike. So, for you I'd go with the GSXR, for me might get the ZX6R instead though.

Well both bikes are very similar in performance, my advice is to buy an older bike. I believe most newbies can handel a 600 IF they ride responsible, seariously don't kill yourself, ill feel bad. You will probably drop it, maybe wreck it, or do something else stupid with it just because it's your first bike, that said i would advise getting an older 600 like a 98/99 CBR or GRXR. Thease bikes are basically just as fast as their more current counterparts (especially if compared between 2 novice riders) but the older bikes cost ALOT les so when you break it you wont feel so bad. Plus i gaurentee you that in a year or 2 youll want to upgrade to something bigger / faster / newer and with the money you saved initially youll be able to do that plus youll have the experiance under your belt. So i say get an older 600, learn on it, dont break it, then but a nice 1000 in a few years.

If your talking brand new, definitely go with the new 08 Kawasaki ZX6R.

If your talking used and those are your only two options, they're relatively similar in terms of performance, I'd go with the best dollar for the least amount of miles. If you want a boat load of after market support you can't go wrong with the Suzuki.
