Sorry to many answer-ers, but "a,e,i,o,u" is not quite correct, whatever your grade school teacher told you.
Those who were taught to add "and sometimes y" are closer, but not quite all the way there. You have to add "and sometimes w" too.
I guess the reason many left of the letter y is that it marks a consonant in some instances, a vowel in others. But actually it was originally JUST used for a vowel-sound (and still is in German, for example) AND even in English is used much more often to mark vowels than consonants. (General rule: at the beginning of a syllable y marks a consonant sound, anywhere else it is for a vowel-sound.)
As for W. This one fools a lot of people. That's because, in ENGLISH words "w" NEVER represents a vowel sound when it's all by itself. It only does so in combination with another vowel (such a combination is called a "diphthong"). When it does so --most often at the END of word-roots-- it represents the same sound as a u. Compare: paw/pause, few/feud, how/house.

If you can't spell can, please, forgotten, and don't know where capital letters should be placed in your question I'm not surprised you don't know your vowels.

Got to be a trick question:
A, E, I, O, U - and they sometimes let "H" in the club if they're feeling generous.
