Less than 6-10 diapers a day. Urine that REEKS like pee, like a urinal in a truck stop stinks.

A soft spot that stays depressed after nursing- or all day long. The skin will loosen and tighten all day, as the fluid under it fluctuates naturally. Its when it stays dented in that you have to worry about.

Otherwise, so long as your nursing when baby is asking you're fine. Its not usual for a breast fed baby to have the dehydrated, under nourished, constipated issues that other babies have.

The best way to tell is by poops and pees. If a baby has at least 5-7 wet diapers a day he should be good. Heres some info to see if baby is getting enough milk.

There is a soft spot on the baby's head that will look sunken in if a baby is dehydrated.

Count the number of times you put the baby to the breast. There should be that many wet diapers. If the soft spot looks normal, you're good! :)

I agree, breast is best, and as long as you are keeping healthy and your baby is feeding well you are on the best route & very unlikely that baby will be dehydrated. For the first 6 months it gives them everything they need.

The ways to check for dehydration are:
-reduced urine output
-no tears when crying
-weight loss
-squeeze the fingernails until white...If they don't return to the right colour quickly (less than 2 seconds)

A diaper that isn't wet after a few hours is one sign to watch for.
