You have to get all of the numbers on one side and the X on the other side by itself. You would start by subtracting 2 from each side, which gives you " 2=2x ." Since 2x means "2 multiplied by whatever X stands for," you would then divide each side by 2, which would give you "1=x" . So X is 1.

You can always check your answering by putting the number X stands for back into the problem and seeing if it works. In this case, 2 x 1 +2 does equal 4, so it works. Does that help?

4=2x + 2 equation
-2x=2 - 4 Move the 2x to the other side and it's sign changes in other words collect like term

-2x= -2 subtract 2-4

x=1 divided -2 by -2

First put unknowns is side and other number in other side
for this problem subtract with 2 for both sides we get
4 - 2 = 2x +2 - 2
2 = 2x +0
2 = 2x
now divide both sides by 2 (to get rid with what come with x)
2/2 = 2x/2
1 = x
we can say also(for better show keep unknowns on left side)
x = 1

4=2x+2
subtract 2 from both sides
2=2x
divide each side by 2

x = 1

Here's why:

4 = 2x + 2

subtract 2 from each side of the equals sign, making the equation:

2 = 2x, which is the same thing as: 2x = 2

finally,
divide the entire equation by 2, getting:

x = 1

2x + 2 = 4
4 - 2 = 2x
2 = 2x
therefore x = 1

okay. You subtract the two from the right side and the left side. Then divide each side by 2. The problem will look like this...

4=2x+2
-2___-2

2=2x
/2 /2

1=x

...hope that helped =)
