A feminist is someone who is fighting against discrimination directed at women. Period.

This means that feminists are fighting for ALL women - conservative and liberal alike. So why is it that conservative women try to smear feminists?

they try to redefine many words, so we spend so much time trying to refute these changes, and their other lies, that they remain three steps ahead.

If they allowed an honest exchange of ideas, they'd be doomed.

The mere word "feminist", is itself a discriminatory & contradictory term that implies a woman is only working for one part of humanity. What happened to HUMANISTS? Somewhere along the way, the lines got blurred & people became separated from the issues at hand. Do some research on the Peoples Liberation Movement/Coalition of the 1960's if you'd like to understand where the term "feminist" started. Sorry, but I see the label as an insult to what a woman truly is...an individual, that is part of the human race. Why degrade & label yourself with a negative cause that has done little to keep up what they originally started out with. Once abortion way legalized, most women who started out as feminists forgot to keep on carryin on for the future generations of females in the US. What good is abortion if it is no longer safe or effective to the very women who need it the most? Like I said, those lines were blurred somewhere along the way & most people have no idea how or where they got that way, much less could figure out how to fix what has become so blurred! Feminism is outdated & misused by most Americans. Let's drop this silliness, move on with our lives, & get on with the business of helping the PEOPLE!...STOP SEGREGATION!!! Conservative vs liberals is just how the whole thing ended up being abused to begin with.

I would say that everyone who cares in one way or another about the women's rights issue, including those who call themselves 'feminists,' try to redefine the word to imply what they would like it to imply.

This is true with most politically charged terms. For instance, if you take Ann Coulter's definition of 'liberal' or Al Franken's definition of 'conservative,' they would both be pretty insulting and both would be a pretty far cry from what most of us would associate with the words.

Part of trying to communicate with someone who disagrees with you (particularly in political discussions) is clarifying definitions and making sure you mean the same thing when using certain words, because a lot of the time the definitions are the main difference between people, and they would agree if they didn't interpret certain key words to mean different things.

With 'feminist' in particular, some people mean someone who stands up for equality for women when they use the term, while others (likely the conservatives you speak of, but not strictly them) interpret the term to mean people who are actually female-supremacists (that is, being sexist against men rather than actually fighting for equality), and if two people are talking with these two different understandings of the term, of course they are going to get in disagreements about 'feminists,' even if they don't disagree on anything more substantial than what they mean with words.

When debating someone, it is VERY important to make sure you mean the same thing with politically charged words before you begin talking. Otherwise, it's quite possible that you can have two people in a heated and unresolvable debate who don't actually disagree, but just mean (and interpret) different things when using the same words.

quite, it became the left that replaced the which ability of those words. I used to evaluate myself a liberal till the social gathering went too far left. Now, i'm considered a conservative for arguing with the Democrats severe spending spree. Socialist has consistently pronounced a guy or woman who practices Socialism. in basic terms simply by fact there are public faculties, libraries, hearth and police interior the U. Progressives chosen that be conscious for themselves to conceal their genuine time desk. forward nevertheless has an identical which ability, yet I question the place Obama is maximum efficient us.

It's the first rule of exchange. If you don't have a rational position (or are ashamed of the position you do hold) you attack the character of your opponent.
