i'm only in highschool but my gyn gave me the pill(the lowest dose...it should still work right?) because i have really bad periods...they've been better since i've been taking this over the counter the medicine but when blood clots come out (and on the 1st day) it's still horrible

i get really weak in my legs and pale during my period (my mom sad i fainted once)...the feeling's worse than pain...when i'm better i feel like my soul has come back in my body (corny i know)....but i'm scared to take it cuz breast cancer has been in my family and i read the side effects and they were scary (like blood clots and stuff....it makes the vomiting which scared me look like nothing)

so any advice or comfort....o and if the pill is the lowest dose will it still work good (my gyn said if it's not than see her but wth is that supposed to mean?)

On the issue of the pill causing breast cancer it has been shown in studies that this is not always the case.

I learned this info during some of the programs put out this month in regards to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The blood clot issue is more of a concern for those that are 35 and smoke but that's why the doctor will keep an eye on you (and this is also why they take a complete medical history to make sure that nothing occurs that could make taking the pill become problematic for a woman such as with getting headaches and such).

As for the nausea and vomitting the best way to prevent that is by taking it at night.

I would recommend making another appt with your doctor and sit with them to discuss the concerns you have.

As for whether it will still work, yes it should but I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what he/she says.

But please know that if you ever need to talk please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time.

ive been on the pill since the 9th grade and im 22 years old. I started taking it for the very same symptoms you have, i had heavy periods and passed out and had monster cramps and the pill worked wonders! I cannot live without it, its a life saver really. the lowest dose is good to start on to find out what dosage you need because every woman is different. so if the lowest dose doesnt seem to work, it just means you need a higher dose. the side effects are rare and are more likely to happen if you smoke. you should just ask your doctor all these questions...

my period only lasts a couple days and i no longer get dizzy, no cramps at all, nothing! you will wonder why you didnt start taking it sooner. im afraid to ever stop taking it.

Sweetheart if I were you I would stop taking the pill. The pill does more harm than good. If you have menstrual problems, try taking Vitamin E. I have been where you are and the vitamin helps me. My sister too had to take the pill when she was very young for the same reason and it didn't work. I told her to take Vitamin E and she has been ok since. I also have friends with the same problem and Vitamin E has helped them as well. When you take the vitamin, it helps your period flow easier and without pain and your blood will not clot. I don't have clots nor pain since I have been on the vitamin. It really is the best thing. Good Luck!

I tried vitamin E and other "natural" remedies...I had to start taking the pill at 17 because nothing else worked for me...I'm 24 now and came off of it 6 months ago. It was safe for me, and very helpful. Try it, if you don't find it helping after 3 months, talk to your doctor again!
