Yes, I have been there, and I didn't feel a such a strange sensation for the Colosseum given its history and past function, but then I felt bombarded with sensations generally the whole time I was in Rome.

The one place in Rome that really creeped me out was the Vatican. I can honestly say that I was far happier mooching around the ancient pre-Christian ruins.
