Good for the mum that did this. More parents need to do similar things with their kids.

And it should be taken a step further. Many foreign countries use public punishment (public spankings if you will) to deter crime --- and it is working. The United States could learn lessons from these countries if it would pay attention.

Public canings are an effective means of crime control. Add to that the fact that they cost the taxpayers much less than placing the offender in a jail and you have an attractive method of deterring crime. The painful buttocks along with the public humiliation are just desserts for those who willfully prey on society.

And as for the person who complained about "psychological humiliation", let them take that stance the next time they are the victim of a crime.

Public punishment is great. Works well in Saudi Arabia. They have floggings on Fridays. The whole thing is humiliating and shaming a law breaker in front of their neighbors and community. And it seems to make the wrongdoers live better lives after. I witnessed some. Sorry, in Saudi, you have to take the available entertainment. But, I never saw anyone flogged to the point of torn flesh or anything. Never done bare skin. I suppose there could have been minor bruising. But it's the humiliation.
I had an employee arrive in country drunk. He spent his first 6 days in a jail. Each day they would take him to the airport and parade him around in chains and shackles and a sign with the offence of being drunk in Arabic and English. He thought it was a search for his lost luggage. The police had that all the time. He was a bad drunk that should have been sent home. But he never did it publically again.

That's why prisoners are often paraded publically in striped or orange jump suits doing prison labor in the US. They want to embarrass and humiliate. Either not enough or we're dealing with slow learners.

i think it's good, but only when the nature of the crime means they really deserve it. i don't have a problem with it in this case, but there are many things against the law that shouldn't be and i'd hate to see someone who didn't deserve it get that kind of punishment.

I think it's a great idea. This way the criminals would have to punished in front of everybody and they would be more ashamed of their stupidity. People would also know exactly who everyone who is considered criminals.

Sometimes drastic measures need to be taken to get through to some kids. I know a guy who used to get off work at his night job and go and sit in his daughters class to make sure she didn't skip out. LOL.....the dumb kid was mortified, but she stayed in class. You do what you have to do.
