I will be living in the SF area (Santa Rosa, to be exact) for all of November, December, January, and part of February. What can I expect and what type of clothing should I pack?

Also, What are the best things to do and see while I am in the bay area?

Thanks!

That question is kind of challenging, as Santa Rosa and all points in the north bay don't really have the same sort of winters as the rest of the bay area. I live in napa just over the hills. And it is foggy a lot. Highs in the day time in the 50s to 60s. Dec and Jan are cooler than Feburary. And the lows during that time normally in the 30s. But in recent winters we have been dipping into the 20s.

It also rains A LOT from January - March. So bring your rain gear. January is the wettest month of the year for Santa Rosa. The north bay is very prone to flooding. Especially just north of Santa Rosa in Healdsburg on the russian river.

As for what to pack, layers, layers, layers. Bring at least one good rain jacket and a hat. Far more useful than an umbrella for living in the "country". Bring also boots and/or shoes that can get wet. And depending on the place you will be working/living at, I usually live in pants, jeans, etc. Though I also have a bunch of long wool skirts that I wear with knee high boots and tights. Sweaters are also great.

Good luck!

actually, the weather is nice. It's mild with some wind. It's one of the nicest times to go because there is barely any fog in the bay area, and the sun is shinning, except for rainy days.

common temp in iciness is around 50-60. no longer alot of heavy rainfall, yet greater then summer time. (atleast from my experience). actual foggy in mornings. I stay 2 hrs from SF, and spent an exceedingly fantastic new years watching the as quickly as a year fireworks instruct. the aspects became fantastic, in low to mid 50's.
