I read in the 1980's how Reagan brought the Evil Empire down by outspending them. The USA, like it has for most of it's history incurred some DEBT. Do you se the Soviets around? This was money well spent.
Of course the LIBS in the 1980's were saying the same things they are saying now "Generations to pay off"! We scaled back the military, and despite Clinton's MASSSIVE tax hikes the Private Sector, BIG BUSINESS, erased our debt in short fassion.
Since Bush took office 9/11, Katrina and the War on Terror have taken place. This costs the government money. Yes, we have debt. Like in the 1980's, this is money well spent and it won't take generations to pay off like the FEAR MONGERS on the left are saying!

"Most of we complainers pay little, or nothing, towards the expense of government."
Honesty. Most liberals don't make enough money to pay federal income taxes.

the soviets were not brought down by a balanced budget, they were brought down by gorbachev's democratic tendencies
the private secton does not erase government debts. the government does
as for global warming, i'm interested to see you refute the argument that a majority of scientists agree with. or let me guess -- they have a political bias, but you don't?

Absolutely not. George Bush is the President of the United States. How is saying that someone will follow the same path as a two term president trying to create fear? Well, in this case maybe. However, McCain has gone out of his way to embrace he Bush policies, e.g. sustain the tax cut giveaway and appoint more RWNC justices to the Supreme Court. Since McCain is RUNNING on the Bush record of borrow and spend tax giveaways and more divisiveness regards social issues - pointing that out is not fear-mongering.

If you knew anything about the USSR you would know that its economy was crumbling from within and it would have collapsed with or without Reagan wasting trillions on unnecessary weapons systems.
Global Warming is real, and will be a huge threat to our future economy if we don't take action today. The debt is a real problem, and we are witnessing its effects as the value of the dollar is plunging. I don't know about you but my grocery and energy bills have been going up faster than my pay the last few years, how long can average Americans handle that?

You got a lot of nerve calling liberals fear mongers after what Bush has done the last six years. You cons live in constant fear of terrorism. You believe that kind of fear is some how more justified than the fears coming from the Left. Hypocrite !

WASHINGTON, Sept 27 (Reuters) - With the U.S. government fast approaching its current $8.965 trillion credit limit, the Senate on Thursday gave final congressional approval of an $850 billion increase in U.S. borrowing authority.
The Senate voted 53-42 to raise the debt ceiling to $9.815 trillion, the fifth increase in the U.S. credit limit since President George W. Bush took office in January 2001. The U.S. House of Representatives approved the higher debt limit earlier this year as part of the overall budget resolution and the legislation now goes to Bush for his signature.
"We have no choice but to approve it. If we fail to raise the debt ceiling soon, the U.S. Treasury will default for the first time in its history," said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus
The debt was 5.6 trillion when Bush took office in 2001.
The economy is so good though....and the cold war isn't over.

Oh yes a $9,064,488,602,644.32 debt is just going to go away. This is not just SOME debt THIS IS ALOT of debt. http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/ How is stating the debt of your war fear mongering? MAYBE it is not going as well as you thought it was going. Global Warming is accepted by the scientific community and even if you don't believe it the o-zone layer is still shrinking, air pollution still exists, animals are dying and it is man's fault! We still need to protect the environment, regardless. The right wing does alot more fear mongering with "Islamofasicm" and that we cannot feel safe if we are not at war with them but them the right wing president does nothing to protect the borders. Not only fear mongers but hypocrites too.

Global warming is a BS propaganda plan to eliminate the rest of the middle class to pave the way for socialism in America. Electricity and other energy needed by the people is going to double in cost due to this scare tactic. The middle class and elderly are going to suffer. And the leftist elites are going to live better than ever with their millions. Al Gore is a fat lying pig.

The "war on terror" in Iraq and Afghanistan has cost one trillion dollars. What happened to the other three trillion dollars added to the National Debt?

the left?? it's not democrats who are warning of global warming. It's SCIENTISTS...And they have NO agenda...what do you think they want you to do? go buy an airconditioner? There's billions being speant by various smokestack industries and their lobbiests to downplay the dangers of global warming...the atmosphere is not some endless void that goes on forever, the emissions we give off stay right here in our lungs (heavy gasses and gravity) Dee Dee Deee! seriously, retake 6th grade science. Or learn to swim. You can lead a horse to water....
