Just make sure when you install the new drive that you set the jumpers on the back exactly the same as the one you remove. Then boot up with the restore CD in your CD/DVD drive and follow the instructions. This should restore everything to the state that you got the computer in when new. Don't forget that you will lose any documents, pictures and music on your old drive. You could back up anything you want to keep on to CD or DVD if you have a burner. Good luck.

You have to remember that the new hard-drive should be partitioned and formatted to the same parmeters as the old drive. If you do that ahead of the data transfer, you will probably save yourself some extra headache.

New hard drives do not come ready to go out of the box. They have to be partitioned/formatted to standard of the operating system that you happen to be using.

If you are using Windows, you can use a program "GHOST" that will recreate the exact image on the new hard drive as the old hard. Linux has a lot of choices to achieve that goal, and the price is right, FREE! That is if you use Linux.

Good Luck!

Running your restore cds on your brand new HD will restore your computer to it out of the box state (just like when it was brand new). You might have to download any missing drivers depending on the type of computer you own. What type of computer is it that you are needing to restore?
